Arsenal 1-1 Bolton
What is it with Bolton? We just can’t seem to crush them like we should. We came back late to equalize, with a few nice attempts at the lead towards the end, but a draw nonetheless. I think we replay them in a few weeks.

Well that was a nice comeback by the kids. Down 2-0 at White Hart Lane yet they still managed to come screaming back and draw with the Spurs. Well played, Gunners. But let’s take it to them when they show their faces in Emirates next week, eh?
My word… retaining 4th place never felt so damn good. What a performance from the Gunners! Positively breathtaking passing game throughout. Though they seemed to press more in the first half, it was the end of the game when they really lit it up. Robin van Persie was in the right place at the right time and put one home, then Thierry Henry heading (yes, heading) one to the nylon with a minute to go in stoppage. My heart nearly leapt from my chest! It felt even better than the 0-1 defeat of Man U at Old Trafford.
So… they’ve now taken the double from two of the top three in the league right now, and drawn with Chelsea. What does that tell you? I know what it tells me. Forget table position… the Arsenal are, pound for pound, the best in the Prem right now. Tell me I’m wrong.
Pink Card for Eboue. Yep… the only downside of the game for me. Don’t get me wrong, if you’re going to throw an elbow in someone’s face, it might as well be Rooney. But, don’t follow it up with theatrics like that. We don’t need to play that sort of game to beat these guys so, knock it off Eboue. You’re too good a player to resort to bullshit like that.
I’m just not sure which is a worse drubbing: 6-2 away, or 0-2 at home with a one player advantage. Well played, Gunners. Very well played. You went down a man and still rose to the occasion. Absolutely gorgeous football. I hope the rest of the football-loving world will join me in wondering why a team of this caliber is only 4th, rather than neck and neck with Manchester United for first. I can’t wait for next week’s match at the Emirates.
But as beautiful a match as it was tonight, there was a lot left to be desired. For one, that myopic twit Stiles needs to turn his whistle in if he’s going to keep calling them like that. And I don’t just mean the bad calls that went for us. He missed a few that should have gone against us too. That’s an unnecessary x-factor in any game.
While we’re on the subject… I give a Pink Card to Robbie Savage. Robbie, I do hope you’re OK… are you? For a moment, I thought that ferocious kick from Gilberto might actually take your leg off just below the knee. Thank goodness you were able to shake it off and continue playing as if nothing had ever happened. Please tell me you’ll be able to continue the rest of the year. What would the EPL be without getting to see a grown man get a love tap and go down like a sappy bitch each week? Reality Check: Drama queens like you fuck the game up for the rest of us, so kindly piss off. Even Jens was laughing at that performance.
David Beckham will receive $250 million (£128 million GBP) for a 5-year stint playing for the L.A. Galaxy, after his contract with Real Madrid runs out in June of this year.
He’s only 31, so he’s got some good playing years left ahead of him. And he’ll certainly get more time on the pitch. Although, he’ll have to get used to playing on fields lined for American football (that always chafes my ass). But, I can’t help but wonder if playing in the MLS will be too easy for him. Not to belittle MLS players, as there are some world class players there, but… certainly none like Becks. It might be a bit like a Wizards-era Michael Jordan playing hoops with 5th graders. Well, perhaps that’s a bit extreme, but you get the idea.
Why? He could have gotten more money elsewhere, so that’s not the M.O. He’s certainly not short on pound notes to begin with, so that’s not it either. And, were it prestige, he probably could have went back to a big four England club, but no… maybe, just maybe, he went to L.A. just so he could play. And that he will. The biggest winner in this deal? The American soccer fan and the MLS. I’ve said before that I think a lot would have to change before the MLS could even have a prayer of being held on par with the EPL, and quite honestly, some of those things (from a social perspective) are probably out of reach… but, it can get better. And, bringing in David Beckham is a huge step in the right direction. Best of luck, David… and welcome to the U.S. The last time someone of your caliber showed up on our shores, it had an incredibly positive impact on the game here, and it lasted a decade. His name was Pelé.
