PSV Eindhoven 1-0 Arsenal
Well, that was just awful. So much for Bobby McMahon’s edge to Arsenal. I really thought this one was going to be a breeze for the Gunners. But no… we’ll see them again on March 7, hopefully with a different result.

Well, that was disappointing. It was a fairly exciting match to watch, it’s just the end result that was lacking. And, I have to say, I’m a little irritated by the amount of flopping going on near the Blackburn penalty area by the Gunners. Particularly, of all people, Thierry Henry. If someone throws you down, fine. But there were a few occasions where a play looked as if it might have been salvaged had some of the lads just gotten up and played, rather than lay about honing their theatrics. I really hate to be critical of my beloved Arsenal, but it pains me to see that going on. Particularly against a team we should have trounced from minute one. Otherwise, a great effort, no doubt. I really thought Adebayor & Rosicky coming on together would have added the punch we needed to get through that backline, but the Rovers held on. Now, we go to their turf.
What a beautiful finish in extra time. Great work, Gunners. It was looking pretty shaky there for a little while, but we pulled it together and now we’re set for Blackburn this weekend (my dog’s favorite team). A brace from Emmanuel Adebayor and another from Freddie Ljungberg for this match. Notsure what was up with Beast from the spot, but that’s ok. 5th round for the kids!
Another excellent win from deficit. It’s almost as if they’re doing it on purpose to add excitement to the game. Purposely or not, that’s just what they’re doing. First, an own goal from Hall at 81′ equalized for us (which probably would have been knocked in by Henry anyway), then Tomas Rosicky headed in a gorgeous cross from Baptista at 85′. I always love to see Rosicky finding the net, as sometimes it seems he doesn’t always get the credit he deserves. He’s truly a great player, with many more good years before him. Great shot, Tomas.
There was a bit of noise on the pitch that I hadn’t expected between these two clubs. Is this new? Or is there a bit of enmity from the past I’m unaware of? Or are they just pissed about being yet another Manchester side Arsenal have taken the double from? Who knows. I was a little surprised by Thierry Henry getting in the face of the Wigan keeper like that. Certainly not his usual calm and cool demeanor. Although, I was not surprised by the antics of Jens Lehmann, who never fails to entertain. 5 yellow cards this season, Jens… and you’re a keeper! Priceless.
A bit disappointing with the red card on Senderos. I guess you have to take the good calls with the bad, but that one cost us 2 points. He defeinitely committed the foul, but it was not inside the penalty area. And Jens very nearly got the boot as well for his reaction. Although, who can blame him for being pissed? All in all, great showing by yet another 10-man Gunners squad that kept the unbeaten streak alive. Looking forward to wigna this weekend.
